how do i set my bookmarks to only show the symbols, to take up less space on my bookmarks bar?

in internet explorer, i'm able to save my bookmarks to my favorites bar, and i can set them to only show the symbol of the link i want to go to, in order to save space. this is helpful because i have alot of favorites that i go to on a regular basis. how do i get it to do this on firefox?
