When I try to type into google, why does box turn blue and not show typed letters?

When I try to enter something into the search box on google, the box turns blue and it does not show what I am typing. It goes to whatever pops up for the first letter typed, then the second letter but never shows what i actually typed. This just started happening with firefox.
