When a download finishes it doesn't say anything (permanently or specifically) that it's finished, I could be downloading a large number of files and there is no labeling or anything to say if a file is finished or not, simply a "canceled" label if there has been an issue, this seems like such a basic omission. This is particularly confusing for my mother and other less tech savvy people. Why on earth is there no "Completed" label? Is there a way to remedy this? (Perhaps within the about:config?)

You can't add labels to show download is complete, however you could search the Add-ons Page particularly this one.

Alternatively, you can change the how long the small popup at the bottom corner of the screen appears in the about:config section. Search: 'browser.download.manager.showAlertInterval' in about:config and set the time in milliseconds.
