I do not want Firefox 12
Help please.
I am on my final warning before automatic update to Fx12 but I do not want Fx12. I want to remain on the superiour 3.6.28
How the heck can I stop it from changing.
If there is no way to stop it then for me it is bye bye Firefox and hello Internet Explorer 9.

It is not advised to stay with Firefox 3.6.x because that version is no longer supported with security updates.
If you do not like changes in the appearance (user interface) of Firefox 4+ versions then there are ways to undo changes via extensions and settings in Tools > Options.

You can check the update settings and disable the automatic update:
- Tools > Options > Advanced > Update
Cor-el, you do not understand the problem.
I do NOT WANT firefox 12 because it adds nothing of worth to me, has a totally different UI that is IMO a poor copy of chrome, breaks support for some addons I want and, simply, I do not want it. I tried it with the luddite addon and is not good enough, it is too much the 12 version that I do not like at all, and of course changing appearance does not make it compatible with the addons I want to use. If it has no security upgrades, so what? still the huge security hole in the system is the user, and probably staying in 3.6 will be much more secure simply because hackers usually go for the big fish and do not spent time in the least used versions, secure or not. As long as the programmers are human, there will be 0-days and the most used version will be the most targeted and so the most insecure, for a given user. I really know the security implications of staying in 3.6 and have chosen to do so.
It keeps asking if I want to upgrade and although there are two answers, "ask me later" and "no thanks", both do the same: firefox keeps asking. What party of "no" does not mozilla understand??? I am old enough to make my own decisions and firefox 12 is IMO a pure shitty "upgrade". If I liked a chrome-like browser that changes versions willy-nilly for no good reasons and breaks compatibility with the most important part of firefox (that is NOT firefox itself, but its addons), I would use real google chrome and not mozilla fake chrome AKA firefox 12.
If mozilla wants to left their firefox 3.x out, it is its decision, ok, I respect that, but why on earth have to constantly annoy us? I will NOT change to firefox 12, as I keep saying, is as simple as that! it does not depend on asking constantly the same question!
If I had found chrome extensions to substitute those I use more in firefox 3.6 I would have upgraded from firefox to chrome long ago.It just makes things its own way (silent upgrades, non standard look&feel) from the beginning, not a "me too" stupid change of heart like mozilla, so if I am forced to go that road that I do not want to, I would take chrome that is at leasr the one that invented the concept and is honest about it.
Why such a (comparatively) weak company as mozilla has taken this arrogant road is a mistery to me, but I suppose that very soon I will not matter to me at all.
I completely understand your situation - and frustration Hoggy & Pko. There are ways to prevent this from happening. Please note that some websites will force this check, such as the default "home" site for FireFox. ( http://en-US.start3.mozilla.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official ).
There is, however, a way to disable the update message you are having. Other users having this problem have gotten advice on this support.mozilla.org page:

I hope that helps you guys too. I really is a shame to see Mozilla hurt the users that *really love* the classic Firefox look and feel. Tons of new developers have created their own versions already. There hopefully won't be long until we can start to replace Firefox - the same way we replaced IE back in the good old days. I weep from saying that...but that's the path Mozilla is laying for us - doing exactly what IE did which inspired them to make Firefox in the first place.
