I created an account using Thunderbird on PC1 a week ago, then installed Thunderbird and the same email address on PC2 which is now working but seems to have lost the emails of the interim period from when I signed out of PC 1 and into PC2. I have received emails since, it's just the middle that seems to have vanished.

Are you sure you configured IMAP accounts? If you choose POP the messages will be downloaded to one of your computers instead of keeping both in sync.
