Tasktray icon reports wrong number of unread messages. No correlation at all?

I guess the question about says it. The tasktray icon is not displaying the correct number of unread msgs. In fact when there is one msg in Inbox and has been read it reports 1 msg unread on the tasktray icon. If I click and make the msg Unread the icon says I have 4? Anyone seen this and found a fix.
