New emails will only download when I restart Thunderbird
Thunderbird 38.7.1
Two email accounts configured:
GoDaddy via IMAP Outlook360 via IMAP
Both accounts have been in use with Thunderbird for 3+ years. Last week, the GoDaddy via IMAP account will only download message when I restart Thunderbird. "Get Messages" does not download new messages,
I can send messages without issue from both accounts.
I do not receive any error messages - I just don't get new messages for that one account unless I shut down Thunderbird and restart. Then it always downloads the messages correctly - but won't download any more that come in.
Any suggestions are much appreciated...

I should also mention - the GoDaddy account downloads just fine to other email clients (e.g. iOS Mail, Mac Mail, etc). So it seems to be a Thunderbird-specific problem...
Does download recommence if you turn the ios devices off? it has been an issue for years with ios consuming ALL available connections to the server so other applications just do not get a look it. Mac mail has the same problem
Nope - the Mac is rarely on (just when I travel), and the iPhone is set to 15 minute fetch. I've repaired my Inbox and it appears to be working now - so maybe that was it - but still odd that it would always sync if I restarted Thunderbird
Repairing the inbox only recreates the index used to populate the user interface. So it really should not be doing anything for you here. But I it works. I will just shut up and accept it.
Well, you were correct - this morning none of my new emails are appearing in Thunderbird :-( Any other suggestions? Thank you!
Some more updates...
I installed Mailbird - that email client seems to work fine.
Also, once TBird stops loading new mail, I can still mark a questions as "Unread" in TBird and see that it is marked "Unread" in GoDaddy Webmail - so some amount of communication is still working.
Please help!
There seems to be something going on as several people using GoDaddy are experiencing similiar issues. As you have already set the 'check for new messages every 15 minutes', could you try the following as a test.
- Right click on imap mail account and select 'Settings'
- Select 'Server Settings' for that mail account
- click on 'Advanced' button
- uncheck : 'Use IDLE command if the server supports it'
- click on OK.
- Click on OK
stay with that setting for a while to see if new mail is detected every 15 minutes - assuming there is new mail of course :)

It would appear Godaddy have actually addressed their server issues.
Our analysis is godaddy had/has an issue with their server software not actually delivering the mail it had said was here.
