Does   AdBlock Plus   not work on other websites   ? Startpagina.nl   might be on the filter list,   you could ask for information about this specific website:
https://help.getadblock.com/support/home
But if it's not working on other websites: If in the 3-bar menu > Add-ons > Extensions,   you have it set to   'activate',   it should work.
Maybe you'd like to try and reinstall   AdBlock Plus:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/

Did you select any filter subscriptions when you installed Adblock Plus? https://adblockplus.org/subscriptions

Without filters Adblock Plus doesn't block anything.
