I was trying to respond to another user that had the same problem but to create an account... so here I am.

So I've been monitoring the GPU and RAM usage in Firefox from before the Quantum switch until now. It started off as much less memory usage and normal GPU usage but lately doing simple things runs 2-4GB RAM and up to 25% GPU usage (rig has 16GB RAM and r9 390 8GB GPU). Chrome doing the same thing with the same tabs open runs +/-1GB RAM and 2-4% GPU. This has become more of an issue after the 57 update and using an inline energy meter my power draw at the plug is up 75W after the update.

This is happening whether video is playing or not, highest percentage while scrolling facebook.

I do run 10+ tabs in FF 57 but have been running the same 10 tabs consistently for over two years without issue. Facebook makes the issue present itself most clearly as having that tab open and front brings GPU and RAM usage up by over 50%.

Firefox is still very fast and I'm generally happy with it but this is a bit extreme for a browser. I have games that put less of a strain on the system than this.

Firefox is constantly updating Tabs, and writing to SessionRestore/recovery.js +, as the idle amounts show. Can Copy/Paste about:config into the Address Bar then Enter. Copy/Paste browser.sessionstore.interval in to the Search at top of the page and wait. Is set for 15secs, 15000 (I think) and change it to the same amount that is below that one, 36----- can double it also as to what a 1/2 hr is I have no idea. I understand Chrome will be running higher soon by reviews.

Please see if fix in 57.0.1 took : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser. Restart Firefox

If that was fixed great and it is now if not.

Please : Go the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.
