I am trilingual and thus installed support for English, Spanish and German and while on my phone, the keyboard is getting smart enough to guess sort of, which language I am writing the current word in, on the Desktop Browser I am not happy at all with how language needs manual switching. Worse, it shows completely pointless locales that I never consciously installed or asked for. 5 English locales, 6 German locales and 22 Spanish locales doesn't make it easier to switch languages. I end up picking random locales with the occasional surprises but would prefer to hide all but one locale per language, with a hotkey to cycle through or pick. How can I achieve a smoother language switching?

The Firefox version you posted here with. User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:66.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/66.0

Not a Mozilla built version of Firefox. Built from source code by Ubuntu - a distro version.

Most Linux distros provide the language packs for Firefox automatically in the operating system. Not sure what the deal is with spell check dictionaries is; whether that is automatic or not.

The Firefox version for Linux which comes directly from Mozilla only includes one language pack, and other than the en-US locale most localized versions don't include a spell check dictionary.

You can check these locations for globally installed dictionaries:
