For emails I currently use Microsoft Outlook Express on a machine running 32 bit Microsoft Windows XP. I have installed 64 bit Windows 10 on the same machine. I would like to be able to access my emails by simply clicking on an icon as I can with Outlook Express. I was hoping Thunderbird would perform this function, but there does not appear to be any way to get it to accept my email address. So, how do I get Thunderbird to download my emails?

After installing Thunderbird you need to create a mail account for your email address.

Menu icon (3 lines) > New Message > Existing mail account

Enter your name Enter your email address Enter the password you would use to access your webmail account. Select checkbox for Password manager to remember password. Click on 'Continue'

Thunderbird will attempt to configure the settings. By default it will look for imap settings.

If you want to set up Pop settings, click on 'Cancel' then click on 'Manual Config' Select Pop and enter the server settings for pop User name is usually the full email address. Click on 'Retest' click on 'Done' to create the account.

If you have a problem: What type of account are you trying to create ? Pop or Imap? What server are you trying to use ? What comes after the @ in your email address? Post image of the 'Manual Config' window.

re : I have installed 64 bit Windows 10 Boot up using that OS.

Make sure you have installed Thunderbird in that OS. Please make sure your Firewall has Thunderbird as an allowed program otherwise the Firewall will not let Thundrebird access the internet.

Your Firewall may be part of your Anti-Virus program. If you have not installed any Anti-Virus product then Windows will be using it's own default Firewall.
