It is possible that these entries come are pinned in the Top Sites section on the Firefox Home page (about:newtab and about:home). These items usually have a 'pin' icon to indicate this. You need to remove them on the Firefox Home page.

The location bar drop-down list can show history items, bookmarked pages, pages opened in tabs, top sites, and search suggestions. You can set what suggestions show when you enter an URL in the location/address bar bar.
