Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

Did all of that. No joy. I can get through just fine on other browsers but that is a real pain. Can't Mozilla fix this issue?

more options

Is there any error message from the site when the login fails, or does it silently return to the login page as though you didn't even try?

By the way, what version of Firefox are you running now -- it's been a few months from the original read of Firefox 99.

to jscher2000: Tried to sign into my account today on the FedEx site. After entering user and password it says: "We are having trouble establishing a connection. Please refresh the page. " and... even if I just try tracking a package without signing into my account (one I know has been delivered yesterday) it says: "Unfortunately we are unable to retrieve your tracking results at this time. Please try again later. "

I have called FedEx they said to contact Firefox or try another browser I have tried this several times and it says the same thing each time for signing in or tracking.

Because there seems like there is no fix for this I use Microsoft edge browser just for this only!

I am using Firefox version 101.0.1

During the past 60 days we've had 3 other FedEx threads. Based on those, it could be a cookie issue or a blocker issue. I think you already addressed those possibilities, but here is one "solved" thread for reference:

https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1374690 => If you run DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials, use its toolbar button to make an exception for the FedEx site so it doesn't block things there

As for Firefox itself, check whether Firefox's Tracking Protection feature is blocking anything on the site. The shield icon toward the left end of the address bar usually turns a bit purplish in that case. Click the icon to learn more or make an exception. See: Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop.

Have you noticed any connection issues where Firefox can connect a site once or a few times, and then stops being able to connect until you fully exit Firefox and re-open it? If so:

Google users have linked the "zero round trip resumption" feature with losing their Google connection in mid-session, including "Oops" messages on Gmail. This feature is intended to speed up website connections. (Explainer post by CloudFlare) However, there seems to be some kind of compatibility issue. Currently, there is only a hidden way to disable this and see whether it helps:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste security.tls.enable_0rtt_data and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch the value from true to false

Not sure whether that can help with any other sites, unless they have the same pattern of working initially and then failing to work further until you close and re-open Firefox.

Recent issue:

Firefox recently rolled out "Total Cookie Protection" to more users. This limits how sites can use "third party" cookies, meaning cookies from different websites than the one you see in the address bar. If FedEx shuffles you between multiple different servers (you see very different web addresses during login) then you might not get logged in on all of the related sites.

You can make exceptions to this feature when needed. More info in the following articles:

Thanks for your input. I can not connect to a few websites. I have to use Google to complete my login. I never had this problem before; since within the last 2 years. I like Firefox but if this continues, I will be forced to use a different browser. I welcome any suggestions. Oh, BTW. I did clear cache and history and all of the other steps that were suggested; without any success.

Could you start a new question and give more details about what happens when you try to connect to those sites. If possible, copy/paste any error text into the body of your question. Here's a link to the form:

Firefox2201 and jscher2000 There is no need to start a new question. This is still happening on FEDEX today. I called FEDEX and they said to use Chrome or Microsoft Edge. This is also happening with another credit card website. So what was happening again..... When I try to log in on Fedex.com under my account in create shipment, it lets me put in user name and password and them opens a new tab, nothing comes up on the new tab, it is a blank page. the tab is: https://www.fedex.com/fcl/logon.do Then I try another way just to sign in on my account it shows my saved user and password . It then says "We are having trouble establishing a connection. Please refresh the page." refresh and doesnt work. the tab is :https://www.fedex.com/secure-login/en-us/#/error This is the same thing that I wrote about on 4-2022 above. It has not been resolved. I am running windows 10 . not sure if that has anything to do with it. I now have to use Microsoft Edge to open Fedex and another credit card company website. Please can Firefox resolve this?

You can remove all data stored in Firefox for a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox for this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data for that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data for that website will be saved once again.

cor-el Thank you for your response. I thought I tried that before so I tried it again,,, it did not work still the same thing happens (FEDEx website) Thankyou

The FedEx site is behaving a little strangely. I asked it to email me my user ID because I forgot it. This worked 50% of the time.

First time fail (also the third):

Error message: Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at https://api.fedex.com/user/v1/userid/email. (Reason: CORS header ‘Access-Control-Allow-Origin’ missing). Status code: 403.

Headers:

HTTP/2 403 Forbidden server: AkamaiGHost

Second time success (also the fourth):

Headers:

HTTP/2 200 OK access-control-allow-origin: https://www.fedex.com server: Layer7-API-Gateway

I don't know why different servers got involved in those responses.

jscher2000 Thanks you for trying that. I did the same thing and tried to have it email me my user name and the same thing happened as before for me from: https://www.fedex.com/forgot-login-password/#/error it said "We are having trouble establishing a connection. Please refresh the page. " I didn't get any other error message like you did. Don't know what all that means as far as a solution for this but when I go on Microsoft Edge I have no problems at all signing in and accessing all info. So the website is not acting strangely on there? When I called FEDEX they said they don't know why its not working on Firefox and just use the other browser. The other site I found the same thing this happens to is Sams club credit card https://samsclub.syf.com/accounts/login so I use Microsoft Edge for that one too. I just dont think there is a solution unless its fixed by firefox in a firefox update.

jscher200

BTW The Sams club credit card site does say this when I try to sign in on firefox :

Access Denied You don't have permission to access "http://auth.syf.com/v3/oauth2/authorize" on this server.

Reference #18.45a4c017.1664754995.2dc648be

more options

"You don't have permission to access..." errors are characteristic of a firewall that protects the server against misuse and this firewall thinks something is suspicious about the HTTP request. If you use a proxy or VPN then try to use a direct connection. You can try to clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the padlock button or via "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences) to see if that fixes it. I've also seen cases where having "Resist Fingerprinting" enabled caused this issue to occur.

If this all doesn't work then you can try "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history item.

The details I posted were from the "Web Console" (Ctrl+Shift+K) where I could view the error message and optionally the Request details (response headers). The inconsistency was strange.
