Can I go back to a previous version of Thunderbird? The current one is particularly difficult in regards to mailing lists. I can't add an existing contact to an existing mailing list. Now I have found that when creating a new mailing list, there is a limit of 7 contacts!!!!

Hello

you can try Cardbook, while it don't allow to have the same contact in 2 address books, it has the concept of category: for a given address book, you can create any number of categories, that appear below the address book, and a contact can have several categories and as such appear in different sub-lists. To take an example, for a given address book for a business, you could have categories 'Managers', 'Sales', 'Production' and have the sales manager appear both in 'Managers' and 'Sales'. No idea on what you mean by the 7 contacts limit. Can you provide a screenshot of the error message ?
