Casey, have you tried opening the exported file in Notepad or any other text editor?

From the KB article (Export login data from Firefox): "If you want to back up your saved usernames and passwords or move them to a different application, the Firefox password management feature allows you to export this data to a .csv (comma separated values) file."

You can open this .csv file in any text editor to read the information, it doesn't have to be opened in Excel. It's just that if you had a spreadsheet application (Excel/Calc), it would help in viewing these CSV files in a tabular format.

To open in Notepad: Right-click on the file -> Open with -> Notepad

If you export the logins then you get a CSV (comma separated values) file. There are internet websites that can convert such a file to a different format, but make sure that the conversion is done locally (i.e. no uploading).
