First, I'm sorry to hear that your automatic updates don't go smoothly. I notice you mentioned this in December in another thread. It is supposed to be easy.

I do select the option on the Settings page to "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" so my work isn't interrupted mid-day.

After your recent update, did Firefox present a message that it needed to create a new profile, or suggest a Refresh/Reset/Tuneup?

If your Firefox started up in a new empty profile without explanation, it's worth checking whether your old profile is available to switch to. Check out the first section of the following article for steps to check on that: Recover lost or missing Bookmarks.

Regarding the 'Settings', those too were automatically reset to Firefox defaults :-(. And there were no messages displayed about 'creating a new profile' or 'Refresh/Reset/Tuneup".

So today I'm MANUALLY going through all the profile Settings and resetting them to my desired options (the ones that I can 'remember' anyways).

Why doesn't an upgrade just 'automatically (by default) reuse my old profile'. Why do they assume a user would WANT to go back to the default settings? A user manually selected to change them 'on purpose'.

This upgrade process is VERY, VERY BACKWARDS. Instead switch it to prompt the user if they 'want to make a new profile', I'm positive 99% of users would say 'NO'.

Note: And I believe I've said this before too, I AVOID upgrading firefox because of this problem and that is a 'very, very bad thing'. Firefox should be doing everything they can to make their users 'WANT to upgrade as fast as possible' to patch any browser security holes.
