How do I download a photo from the Internet?
Before, with Firefox 1 it was easy - I just held the cursor on the photo, and a window appeared. I clicked "save image" and my "photo gallery" appeared and stored the photo. Now, when I try to hold the cursor on the photo, nothing happens, except that I can drag the photo. If I click the photo I get a separate image of it, but I don't know what to do with the image.
Is this clear? I used Firefox 1 for years on my blog. Now suddenly it is no longer easy.

The normal way to download an image is mouse right-click > save image as .. This works in any browser.
What you describe is a browser specific feature which some sites disable in their HTML code. If you really want something similar in FF you may try an add-on, e. g. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/search/?q=image+toolbar
Sounds like your mouse only has one button. The right-click on a multi-button mouse is usually used to bring up the Contextual menu, but on Macs that can be done with Click-Hold on single-button mouse's when the following pref is switched to "on".
This new preference was added to Firefox 2.0 versions to allow Mac-users to turn on this feature, since the default has been "off" in Firefox since it was added.

type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
Pref Name = ui.click_hold_context_menus
Double-click to Toggle to True
Thanks for the assistance. It helped a lot.
