Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Plugins. In the list, find Fun Web Products and click: "Disable". This plugin which usually comes bundled with 'free' programs interferes with browsing. See http://www.networkworld.com/newsletters/2003/1208web2.html

To downgrade to v3.6.17, do the following:

  1. Go to Download Firefox v3.6.17 and download it to the desktop.

  2. Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).

  3. Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

  4. Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.

Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

After you complete the installation, go to the Plugins Check page and update where necessary.

If your bank is adamant that they won't support v3.6.17, give them this link: http://blogs.comodo.com/it-security/data-security/the-recent-ra-compromise/

The fraudulent certificates which were inadvertently issued allow an attacker to create any site including online banking and previous versions of Firefox will not warn you that the site is a fake. The fraudulent certificates were blacklisted in v3.6.17 and above.

Well, Firefox 5 is a beta version, and most banks just don't support beta-level browsers. As far as not supporting the Firefox 4 release version, they risk losing customers over their lack of support for the latest release version of the 2nd most popular browser in use today.
