bookmarks lost after reinstallation.
My firefox 16.0.1 stopped working so i reinstalled it. whereas it didnt work even now. i opened it in administrator mode and it worked, but the problem which occurred was that all my bookmarks were lost. Now whenever i open my profile manager, it stops responding. The places.sqlite file is still there in the profile. From Help > Troubleshooting information i got to know i am using the same profile i was using earlier.

Have you tried restoring one of the earlier bookmark backups?
A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I have allowed mozilla in the windows firewall and uninstalled the anti-virus but still i have to run it in the administrator mode and the bookmarks are still lost. I have retained the places.sqlite,places.sqlite-sqh and places.sqlite-wal files. Is there some other way to get them into use without making any new profile because whenever i make a new profile an empty folder is formed in "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles ". @cor-el
