Cannot remove any bookmark in "Unsorted Bookmarks". I have tried "resetting" firefox.
I cannot remove individual "Unsorted Bookmarks." I have no trouble removing bookmarks from the "Bookmarks Menu."
I have many of these bookmarks that I cannot remove. They just clutter up the bookmarks pulldown menu and make it almost unusable.
I do not need to remove the entire category "Unsorted Bookmarks", although that would be an acceptable solution.

Cor-el: thanks for the quick reply. It did not solve the problem, but something you said did lead to a solution.
To restate the problem, there were many bookmarks which appeared in the pulldown menu which simply could not be deleted.
I was able to delete "normal" bookmarks by bringing up their respective pages, left clicking the "Edit this Bookmark" star that appears near the right end of the URL field, and then clicking "Remove Bookmark" in the popup which would appear. In this case, the star would be yellow and in the popup, the folder would be listed as "Bookmarks Menu."
In the case where I could not delete the bookmark, the star would be white and the folder would be listed as "Unsorted Bookmarks."
It did not make any difference whether I started firefox in safe or normal mode.
It had been years since I used the bookmarks sidebar and I had completely forgotten that it existed. You mentioned it in your reply, however, and I decided to try it. Bingo! In the sidebar I was able to right-click bookmarks and then left-click "Delete". This even worked for the bookmarks that I could not delete any other way.
I do not know whether this is a bug in version 16 of firefox, or if somehow my bookmarks file had accumulated bad metadata over many years of version updating.
In any case, for me this is a problem solved.

Firefox doesn't show the bookmarks in the Unsorted folder in a menu (Bookmarks menu and Bookmarks Menu button).
You can only see the contents of the unsorted folder in the Library and in the side bar.
In the menu you only see an Unsorted Bookmarks entry that opens that folder in the Bookmarks and History Manager (Library).
Are you using an extension to show the contents of that folder in a menu?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.
