PlainoldFavorites not compatible for Firefox 22
The PlainOldFavorites add on is mot compatible with new version 22 .Let us know if any new add on released for the same purpose to show all the IE favorites without import\export option . If no add on are available for new version 22 ,let us know how to add bookmarks to firefox in silent mode without disturbing the existing Bookmarks.

I downloaded the Plainoldfavorites 1.3 using firefox 21. I then installed it to make sure it worked. then I upgraded to FF 22 and I had no problems. I'm running FF 22.0
Not sure why it is not working for others.

Hopefully the developer of PlainOld Favorites will update his add-on for Firefox 22.0, but according to the reviews of that add-on on the AMO downloads page, he isn't responding to user emails about providing Firefox 22 compatibility.
As far as 'silently' importing bookmarks from IE, Firefox isn't programmed for doing it 'silently'. This is how users can so it manually; the IE bookmarks / favorites will merge with any bookmarks already saved in Firefox.
In IE: File > Import/Export - Export to HTML file
then in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = From HTML file
I just tried it also. Deleted the old version, re-installed FF 22 and Plain Old Favorites 1.2 and it did not work.
I deleted FF 22 and re-installed FF 21 and Plain Old Favorites 1.1 and it worked fine.
The documentation for Plain Old Favorites is incorrect. It states Plain Old Favorites is compatible with FF 22 and 23, but it is not.
Thanks for you reply. Do we have an sql commands to edit the places.sqlite file to append the bookmarks data?
If you are importing in bookmarks.html format Firefox will automatically append your existing Firefox bookmarks file. No need to do any editing of any files.
Hello, I have this exact same problem. I tried to follow the edmeister's instructions above, but can't find Import/Export on the File menu. Oh wait, ok, I found it on the Favorites menu....
Ok, that seems to have worked. Oh great -- now everything's in alphabetical order! I may never get any work done today, for having to fix all the crap provided by this last update (today). I may have to get a browser that I pay for, just so I have some voice, or at least choice, in what happens with updates. Funny, I thought that was a benefit of using open source programs!
Anyway, sorry for venting. There are some items at the top of the Bookmarks list (Show All Bookmarks, Subscribe to this Page, Bookmarks Toolbar) that I don't want, that can't be moved or deleted.
Any way to get rid of those?
Thanks for your help.
Sorry, users don't have a say in what goes into Firefox updates, we're just along for the ride. And if users collectively would ever have a say, it would be at the Nightly version level, like 18 to 24 weeks before the new version of Firefox is released.
Whatever Bookmarks menu items or "folders" can be deleted, have the Delete contextual menu (right-click menu) item not greyed out and still active. None of the three Bookmarks menu items that you mentioned can be deleted.
Those three menu items aren't new, they have been in Firefox since Firefox 3.0 was released back in June of 2008.
Oh no, I would have had no idea whether they were new or not. But the Bookmarks menu is new for me, because I have been using the Plain Old Favorites menu (v1.2) ever since I started to use Firefox.
If I could have found such simple instructions for importing my IE Favs menu into Ff Bookmarks, in the first place, I probably never would have installed POF. When I first installed Ff, I couldn't make heads or tails of the Bookmarks Toolbar system. Once I found POF, I got rid of the Bookmarks Toolbar. I actually didn't know it would work without the toolbar, lol. But I'm glad it does.
Thank you very much :-)
If you are new to using Firefox bookmarks note that there are many features.
Display
From the sidebar, bookmarks manager, bookmarks dropdown list, or bookmarks toolbar. Note folders may be nested, that may help if you have a lot of bookmarks.
Search
From the bookmarks manager (that also has various different sort options)
and they are integrated in the location bar results. It may also help if you add tags.
Backup Remember it may help to make occasional manual backups if your bookmarks are important to you. Alternatively if you have a second device consider syncing with that as a backup measure.

Oh dear, no compatibility warning again.. like Roboform 7.7? Whatever happened to regression testing? Hmm, can appreciate the difficulty given addons, but clearly the testing/review system is lacking.
Back to v21.
I understand Officially listed add-ons do get some sort of review but it may now tend towards assuming compatibility unless there is an obvious known issue.
Have you read the solution it says the latest version of PlainOldFavourites does work with Firefox 22 so upgrade the addon rather than downgrading to an unsafe and unsupported Firefox 21.
Thanks John99 - I would hope the most popular ones are tested.. a triage system- at least, and ones like Roboform which are periodically an issue on updates.
Else the user community is the testbed.
Anyway, for me at least, Plain Old Favourites 1.3.1 works in FF22...
It is not up to Mozilla and the Firefox browser to be made compatible with the Extensions (especially when there are hundreds) but the other way. Testing is doe though as there were six Betas for Firefox 22.0 for example.
Also the PlainOldFavorites 1.2 and earlier was relying a old api that has since been removed in Firefox 22.0 and newer development I believe. The author did not even update this extension for two years since June 2011 until now.
Unlike with most normal extensions which if they were compatible with Firefox 10.0 they can usually still be compatible with each new release including 22.0 without issues, however just like with the antivirus toolbars the Roboform extension needs to be updated for each new major Firefox version.

The version 1.3 of PlainOldFavorites is at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/plainoldfavorites/versions/
When I try to install Plain Old Favourites 1.3 I get message that Firefox prevents me from downloading it. Very annoyed that this time did not state that Plain Old Favorites was incompatible with new update. I have lost all my favourites which included lot of sites that was associated with my new house-to be built. Can I undo update or am I having to go back to Internet Explorer and ditch Firefox.
Always before I was informed of the incompatibility
Hi jibs, you could always try downloading the xpi file using another browser (although that shouldn't be necessary, of course). But at least it would prove you can access the site and nothing else is stopping you.
If you post the exact message, maybe someone can help you.
It is just that Firefox's Bookmarks are awkward and not quick to use. The plain old favourites did the job so well.
Personal opinion, but I do not find Firefox bookmarks "awkward and not quick to use"
As for PlanOldFavourites maybe all you need to do is update PlainOldFavorites..
