Flash Videos Freeze in Firefox
Hi, I have an HP 6730b Laptop which I've recently re-installed due to an SSD upgrade. The laptop is now running:
- Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1 with all the latest updates. - Latest Firefox 27 - Latest Adobe Flash 12.
The problem is that, whenever I try to play a video that uses flash in Firefox (e.g. youtube, news.bbc.co.uk), the video freezes as does Firefox. The only way to shut it down is then to kill the process in task manager. Note that Firefox doesn't actually crash so no crash log is generated.
The following is what I've tried (all with no affect) in trying to solve this issue:
- Disabled Flash ProtectedMode. - Uninstalled Flash completely (using instructions from Adobe: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315) and re-installed. - Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. - Disabled Hardware acceleration in Firefox - Disabled Hardware acceleration in Flash settings (right click on Flash App -> settings). - Updated Video graphics card drivers to latest version (Intel Series 4 Express Chipset).
At this stage, I'm still without a solution. I would like to stick to using Firefox as it's my preferred browser but I'm running out of options. Ironicially, Internet Explorer works absolutely fine on the same laptop.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Joe

Hi Joe,
Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. And you have tried all the workarounds that this forum has in the knowledge base. The past update to 11.3 had a work around, but I am not sure if it is no longer valid.
- This was the temporary work around for the last versionhttp://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071#TemporaryWorkaround
It is also possible to submit a report the next time that it crashes.
Please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
- Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.
Thank you for your help!
More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.
Hi, Many thanks for taking the time to reply. I've also tried turning off ProtectedMode but it still didn't solve the issue. With regard to the crash report, I'd love to submit one - the problem is that Firefox doesn't actually crash - it sort of just freezes (i.e. I can't click anything etc.) and never comes back to normal. I can then only kill it via task manager but this doesn't cause it (Firefox) to produce a crash report. Is there any other info that might be useful?
Joe
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
