Server not found errors on 38.0.6 for mac, pages load on other browsers or on Firefox in a new tab
I am getting many "server not found" errors since I upgraded to 38.0.6. To clarify, I am browsing with no problems and get this error for example when clicking a result from a google search or from a link in an e-mail. The same link will open normally on chrome or safari and if I copy the link onto a freshly opened window/tab, then it loads. However, in the tab that opened first from say the email link, it still won't load. So you can have one tab with an error message and another one where it is loading with no issues. Very frustrating.

Hi gaeriwitch , I understand that each time that the first tab is opened in a new Firefox session that it does not load. Does it try to make a connection before an internet connection is detected? I only ask because there is usually a specific error message that will show up on the tab that will not load.
If this were to happen on many tabs this would be the first recommendation I would have for troubleshooting:
Hi guigs2, Thanks for the reply. The connection is opened already. This is a new tab in an already opened browser. The frustrating thing is that this does not happen every time. As an example, this morning I was reading an online journal and opened each piece that interested me in new tabs. I opened multiple tabs to read later on. One of them gave me the server not found error (the rest opened normally). I tried reloading, same result. I then opened a new tab, copy-pasted the link and it opened normally. With links from email, I click on the link from Thunderbird and a new tab opens on firefox in addition to others already open. Sometimes they load correctly, sometimes they don't (but they will load on other browsers or on a new tab).
Got it, so this happens when you try to open a tab from another application into an open session and sometimes when opening another link into a new tab. Does it only happen when opening in a new tab? Does it ever happen when you open a link in the same tab you are viewing?
Other helpful troubleshooting tips that helped with this generally in the past:
- Does this ever happen when you open Firefox in Safe Mode? Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode
- Check to make sure all the add ons are up to date, it might be affecting the tab performance.
- Just in case: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware
I think it happens mostly when opening a new tab. I will disable my addons (and extensions) for a couple of days and report back. If one of them is originating the problem I will post it as well.
Thanks!!
Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).
