Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.search.openintab and set it to true.
Hi, probably ascene needs to focus the position of the cursor in the search bar instead of address bar(when open a new tab).
if the browser.search.openintab set it to true, means "When performing a search from the Search Bar, open the results in a new tab."
thanks
Can you elaborate and clarify what you try to achieve?
Tabs open in the browsing area and not in the search bar or location bar.
Do you mean where the cursor is positioned when yo open a new tab?
You can look at this extension:
- Custom New Tab: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/
I may be imagining this but, back in the day when I first started using Firefox, I would open a new tab and the cursor, blinking line, would be in the Search Bar. Not the Address Bar. By Search Bar I mean the Search Box... Located directly next to the Star for the bookmarks.
Like I said, I may be imagining that. I also could be imagining that, again, back in the day when I would search using the Search Bar, after I would search for something, the page would load and whatever was in the box would clear. Leaving me ready to search for another thing.
Firefox has never set focus to the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar. If you open the about:blank page then the focus will be on the location/address bar. If you open a built-in about page like about:home or about:newtab then the cursor will in the search bar on that page.
I'm not aware of an extension to set the focus to the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar. The shortcut key is Ctrl+K.
Top right is what i mean. Not the bottom. I thought my pages would switch to that because I really don't remember me either clicking the search or hitting tab to take the focus away from the address bar, to the left of highlighted right.
