Firefox crashes at startup: refresh / reinstall / profile wipe / addon purge did not fix
Hello,
As the subject says, my Firefox now crashes right away on startup. (This is on Windows 10 64 bits.) Here's what I tried that did not fix the crash: - refresh - reinstall - disable all addons - uninstall software that supplies plugins (Flash, Acrobat Reader) - delete profile
Here are the situations where Firefox does not crash: - safe mode - using nightly instead of 40.0.3.
Here's one of the first crash reports from today (before I started trying a ton of stuff): https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-50b4ac99-cc1f-4157-93cd-5ad192150920
And here's one of the last one: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-caf2ff15-3d5a-45ff-bc00-cd58b2150920
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Since Firefox start in Safe Mode, could you try disabling Firefox from using hardware acceleration?
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. Any difference?
Normally, I give the following advice, but for Windows 10 users, the problem may in fact be that Firefox has not caught up with late-breaking driver updates. Your experience with Nightly suggest that is the case with your hardware. (But I'll list it anyway...)
Since hardware acceleration improves the appearance of fonts and animations, you may want to check your computer manufacturer's website to see whether any graphics card/chipset driver updates are available for your system. This article suggests safe ways to check: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.

Yes, that fixes the problem. Thank you! I did not think that safe mode disabled other things than addons, plugins, etc.
Do you know if there will be a patch to Firefox 40 for this?
By the way, my computer has the latest graphics drivers available installed.
Hi chrish42, Firefox 40 is done. Firefox 41 will be released in a couple of weeks. However, since your crash reports do not link to any specific bugs in the bug tracking system, I don't know whether the problem you're having will be fixed or not. Sorry!
Okay. Thanks for the help!
