I get this message "The address wasn't understood

Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (bbc-ipd) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context. 

   You might need to install other software to open this address."

The BBCiplayer is already installed. The problem arose because I wanted to download some programmes and I got the message I posted asking for help to resolve it.

I'm not familiar with iPlayer. I'd suggest you look for or ask for help on the BBC website.
