Is there a way to remove or hide the big purple banner when opening a new Private Browsing session?

If not, how do I officially request this "feature" be removed?

google and download " yarip" put your mouse on what you want to delete and right click, pick blacklist element. click yes to pop up. I'm not a pro at using it, but I can use it enough to get things deleted. Maybe someone here can help more with explaining yarip.

Hello ES13Raven, you can't do that, to remove or hide the big purple mask in private browsing.

Note that the purple mask is visible only if you already have open a normal firefox session and after that open a privet session. If you select in Options > Privacy > History > Firefox will > Never remember history, then when you open firefox again you are in permanent private browsing mode and the purple mask is NOT visible.

of course you can file a bug :-)

thank you

Hi ES13Raven, a new private window always shows the internal page with the address: about:privatebrowsing

Firefox allows you to restyle web pages, including such internal web pages, using custom style rules (as well as various add-ons). For example, you could hide the purple bar using this:

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document url("about:privatebrowsing") {
  /* Hide purple bar */
  #bar {display: none !important;}
}

Or you could completely blank out the page using this:

@namespace url(http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml);
@-moz-document url("about:privatebrowsing") {
  /* Hide purple bar and main page content */
  #bar, #main {display: none !important;}
}

Custom style rules can be applied to pages using either the Stylish extension or a userContent.css file. More info:

Kinda defeats the purpose of private browsing if you open it and a big, bright purple banner lets everyone know.

That isn't the purpose of Private Browsing; to keep people who might be looking over shoulder from seeing that you are using the Private Browsing mode.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/private-browsing-use-firefox-without-history

"As you browse the web, Firefox remembers lots of information for you - like the sites you've visited. There may be times, however, when you don't want people with access to your computer to see this information, such as when shopping for a present. Private Browsing allows you to browse the Internet without saving any information about which sites and pages you’ve visited."

I guess "private" doesn't mean private...

Private browsing is only about not storing session data in the Firefox profile folder and nothing more.

You can use an extension to get Private Browsing mode support per tab.

You can toggle Private Browsing mode on/off via the right-click context menu of a tab There are toolbar buttons in the Customize palette.
