My old pc is failing and thunderbird just about works albeit very slowly. I managed to use mozbackup to backup my profile and also copied the stuff in Users/Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles.

I installed Mozilla Thunderbird on a new computer and mozbackup appears to work for the restore function but on opening thunderbird, I have email address book stuff and can send and receive email ok but there are no emails in the inbox.

I also pasted the profile data I coped from the old computer to the profiles directory of the new installation with the same result.

What am I doing wrong as I really need the old emails and attachments?

Rgds,

Alex Johnson

The new computer - is it Windows 10?

My first experience of copying a Thunderbird profile onto a new Windows 10 installation was that it copied only the top layer of folders (where account settings and address books live), but not the lower-down folders (for example, Mail, ImapMail) where all the message data is stored.

Yes the new machine is Windows 10 as was the old one.
