When I installed the latest update (59.0.1) I had multiple tabs open in my previous session. I use the 'load tabs from the previous session' setting. Upon trying to click on open tabs from my previous session Firefox either treated the tabs as a blank tab by marking it as a new tab (even though it was a tab that was supposed to have information (text or video) in it) and refused to load the page, or loaded the tab's open page again on a different page, deleting all pages that came after the newly loaded page. Firefox also refuses to go to pages that were listed prior to the open page on the old tab.

Could try uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 59.0.1 with a Full Version Installer

Use this for finding extensions for Tabs, multiple tabs, previous session as search words as there are a bunch like Session Manager: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Firefox uses the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file in the profile folder to store session data. The sessionstore.jsonlz4 file is only present when Firefox is closed. The sessionstore.jsonlz4 file is created from recovery.jsonlz4 when you close Firefox and is removed and copied to previous.jsonlz4 when you start Firefox to make is possible to restore the session at any time.

Backup the session files in the sessionstore-backups folder in the Firefox Profile Folder to make sure not to lose possible important session data. Do NOT close Firefox when Firefox is already running.

You will normally find these files in the sessionstore-backups folder:

  • previous.jsonlz4 (cleanBackup: copy of sessionstore.jsonlz4 from previous session that was loaded successfully)
  • recovery.jsonlz4 (latest version of sessionstore.jsonlz4 written during runtime)
  • recovery.baklz4 (previous version of sessionstore.jsonlz4 written during runtime)
  • upgrade.jsonlz4-<build_id> (backup created during an upgrade of Firefox)

You can copy a file from the sessionstore-backups folder to the main profile and rename the file to sessionstore.jsonlz4 to replace the current file (make sure to backup the current sessionstore.jsonlz4).

Firefox 56+ releases compress the files in the sessionstore-backups folder and sessionstore.jsonlz4 with LZ4 (.jsonlz4 instead of .js), so it is no longer easy to inspect them.

While these seem like good solutions, I am still worried this might happen again, so I would also if possible like to know what caused this problem to happen, was it data corruption or something else?

That is the most likely scenario and why I asked you to save the Profile and to install new Firefox. cor-el is very experienced and knew the problem right away. While I was waiting for you to get back to us and say it worked or did not work. Working on your Profile would have been my next .....

Might try the extension suggestion. Always make your backups when things are working good. My Bookmarks are from 1995.

This allowed me to see the tabs, but they still do not work properly, coming up with a blank page when clicked on, overwriting pages that come after, and not allowing access to what pages came before the current page. I am guessing that it means the profile is not corrupted but the firefox copy I currently have is, correct?

Edit: Have tried both offered solutions, unfortunately neither have worked. Thank you for trying.

Do you see the links in a sessionstore file if you check the file with this utility created by our contributor jscher2000?
