Firefox latest update has screwed up hotmail & ebay links. How do I go back to the PRE-update version?
ebay sends lsearches to my email which I can click on and go to the item. It worked fine until Firefox updated when I restarted. Now the links hang up in a transitional url ("roving") and do not get to the final URL of the item. I get a white screen. Furthermore, my email also becomes a white screen. Clicking the link in Firefox gives me the rover url complete and does NOT go all the way to the cgi.ebay.com url, where the item is. Internet Explorer goes THROUGH the rover url and ends at the cgi.ebay.com url. HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS UPDATE UNTIL THE BUG GETS FIXED???Or do I have to just use Internet Explorer, which still works.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
- "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
- "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I did reload 3.6.14 and it did not solve the problem, unfortunately. Your help files say the problem may be caused by the update process itself and not necessarily the new version. All the fixes for THAT are way beyond my available time and knowledge. I did clear the cache also, no change. I did NOT get into trying to find all the ebay cookies, nor am I going to attempt starting Firefox in Safe Mode since I see after reading that section that it is possible to get STUCK in safe mode and the way things are going, that would probably be me. Another problem which came with this annoying update, apart from just the hotmail link to eBay from the mail messages (which can be avoided by my using gmail instead of hotmail) is that eBay itself is now not showing correctly. Ads show with huge amounts of dead space below them, i.e. I have to scroll down an entire blank page to reach the "contact the seller" message which is usually at the lower left of the ad. Auctiva, which is another program that works with eBay ads, has suddenly started being strange as well, refusing to upload my pictures in the usual way.
At this point I am just going to go back to Internet Explorer, slow as it is, to do anything and everything involved with eBay, which is my work and which needs to work for me seamlessly or it blows time and time is money, which I do not have. If other folks have this problem and you come up with a real fix for it, please let me know.
I have removed the automatic update feature in Firefox since it stabbed me in the back today today. I will resist installing any updates in the future until I see that they are not causing problems for other people. I thought it was just me but see there is another person having the same problem today.
"If it works, don't fix it" continues to be my motto, and it was working just fine.
Thanks for your help, I appreciate your time.
P.S. The ONLY add-on I have is ad blocker. I' 67 and I don't do fancy. This is a nice ilttle windows XP computer and all I need.
Someone should develop SIMPLE STUFF THAT DOES NOT CHANGE for us older folks. We would be oh so happy with that.
I had this problem with Hotmail but not eBay funnily enough. Clearing cookies and the cache seemed to work. It is an easy process, so well worth trying at least!
Módosította: bearMedicine,
I did install the previous version of Firefox, the one I had before the update. Unfortunately, it did nothing to solve the problem.
I cleared ALL the cookies and cleared the cache. This did not solve the problem. As for add-ons, the ONLY add-on I have is the AdBlock Plus. I did not uninstall it, but maybe should try that next. As for starting Firefox in Safe Mode, when I was reading about that, there were other instructions after it about what to do if Firefox gets STUCK in Safe Mode. The way my luck is going, I didn't want to risk getting stuck in Safe Mode so I didn't do it. Right now my work-around is to use GMAIL instead of Hotmail (I have all my Hotmail forwarded to GMAIL as a backup anyhow). The link works FINE in GMAIL, although in Firefox the eBay ads are strange now, with tons of dead space between end of ad and bottom of page where "ask seller a question" link now resides. In Explorer, that appears right under the ad text where it should. Too bad Explorer is so tediously slow to use. Firefox has me spoiled as to speed.
I also have this problem. ebay links wont work on ebay or from ebay mail. And i also agree that at 67 you shouldn't have to learn to be a pc geek. Even at 39 i have my own job to do without learning someone else's. I do wonder why pc geeks expect i would want to. Perhaps i should expect them to know all about my job too.
Would you believe i had to make an account to post this, and the link in the confirmation email would not work unless i allowed all the blocked content through as well. Thats just silly. Simply visiting the link is ample for any other site. Why should i have to expose myself to blocked content. And installing ff4 lost all my favourates. over 10 years worth. I am rapidly looseing interest. even the divx web player is no longer supported.
I to am migrating back. There is nothing to keep me here now my favs are lost along with my divx player and ebay.
