Am using Acer Extensa 5620Z with Windows 7 Ultimate and Firefox 5. Am old with no tech grasp but a fan of Firefox from version 2. There are two scrolling modes: Auto and smooth. However, whichever is used the scrolling a web page is a problem. When arrow keys are used am taken to either bottom or top in one annoying jump. Am compelled to use the drop down buttons of scroll bars. Or is it necessary to click on main body of web page and then use arrow keys when cursor is inserted ? Kindly tell me the best way to scroll pages. Thank you dear informed and skilled adviser ... I envy you !

Its called Caret Browsing. The fix is to hit f7, which will turn it off. For reference, check this link: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Scrolling_with_arrow_keys_no_longer_works
