Is this the bit defender toolbar that is saying is incompatible? Bit Defender anti virus itself will still run on your computer no matter what browser you use or don't use, but their toolbar may not work. The toolbar is not necessary for the daily use of your anti-virus, as it usually just provides some extra "features" (the usefulness of which is debatable) to your browser. You can try updating your bitdefender to see if the toolbar has any updates to mark it compatible with firefox 12, if not, you will have to wait until an update is released from bitdefender (I looked and can't find anything on their website).

So, to sum it up, Firefox updates don't make your anti-virus stop working, just the toolbar hasn't been updated (which doesn't protect you from much).
