Win xp sp3 with FF 18.02. Takes 2-3 attempts to start up. Spurious crashes in normal use. Hangs on resuming from standby and hibernation. Safe mode seems to work BUT disabling all add-ons manually does nothing to solve the problem. Renaming folders in application data and local settings/application data, uninstall and fresh install does nothing to solve it. FF 15.01 reinstall with all the old add-ons and folders works fine.

Any clues? Obviously I'm not accepting updates for some time!

I don't think the additional info sent with this will help you as this is sent from 15.01!

Kiválasztott megoldás

Please do the following:

Update to Firefox 18.0.2

Disable Hardware Acceleration Turning off hardware acceleration

Scan for Viruses Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

And let us know if that works.

Also do provide the crash ID's requested above :)

The latest ones are too old I think. The problem's only been in the last couple of weeks at most.

So Firefox hasn't crashed, just been freezing?

Then update back to Firefox 18, try the steps above, and add another, Reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Yes it was crashing, just no reports. On starting up, there would be the mouse "busy" sign for a couple of seconds then nothing, or FF would come up as a window for a second then disappear and not be a running process in the background. Third time generally it would come up normally, but sometimes missing all the previously open tabs - when I'd close it and start again, and 2nd or third time the tabs would reappear.

OK did the virus check (hence the delay!) No problems. Upgraded to 18.02 with hardware acceleration OFF. It now seems to work fine after hibernation, standby and restarting FF several times. So it looks like you gave me the solution. I'll post again if it does show up the problem again, but it seemed to be a consistent behaviour after standby. Thanks!

Tried it with hardware acceleration ON again. Crashed twice on starting up. Turned it off again and it came up normally. Just to be sure to be sure!
