Just upgraded to Firefox 27.0.1 today. Bringing up FF, navigating to a new webpage, even help takes unbearably long to load. Went to the troubleshooting page and "reset firefox". No improvement. Finally re-installed FF 26.0.

hello, normally such issues are caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions: Fix problems connecting to websites after updating Firefox

Hello Philipp, I saw that advice before, and I checked Windows Firewall. Mozilla Firefox was not listed as an exception, however that didn't seem to be a problem with FF 26. I just added it, just to see if I could see any improvement. But as I had mentioned, I already reverted to FF 26, and that seems to run OK anyway.
