I've been using Thunderbird for years, then it crashed about a month ago --- I opened it as usual in the morning, and it was at the "beginning" page, asking me to set up an account. All my email and folders were gone. After trying several times to set up Thunderbird with all the old folders, I've given up on that and I'm starting over.

My email address is me@ix.netcom.com which is now at earthlink.

In the meantime, I've was getting my email through springmail.com, logging in fine there several times every day. But when I try to set up the account in Thunderbird, I get "Login to server imap.earthlink.net failed" I used this email address in Thunderbird for years.

I've set up two other email accounts easily in Thunderbird. One of them is an alias for the one that's failing! It's domain is earthlink.net.

The other one is an email address from my own domain, coming from a webhost.

Any suggestions on how to get the ix.netcom.com account setup would be gratefully appreciated.

HI, contact the "earthlink.net " admin and make sure about IMAP ports.

According to the "earthlink.net" website, they didn't mention about IMAP support. only they are providing POP3

IMAP Configuration

Yes, that was it. I had to manually configure the account for pop.
