why are my email received messages (i.e. hotel confirmations, etc.) that are stored in folders being deleted?

I have created folders for my important received email messages....i.e. hotel, rental car confirmations, party organization messages....so I can refer back to them. (Some messages were written 4 months ago, but I still need the message to refer back to....however when I open up my travel folder that I set up, messages have been deleted by Thunderbird, not me!!! How do I keep Thunderbird from deleting my messages?

I have created folders for my important received email messages....i.e. hotel, rental car confirmations, party organization messages....so I can refer back to them.
