I have the option set to Open Last Browsing Session bu, lately, when I close the program, the next time I open it I have just the home page, which is the Mozilla page by default since I never changed it. I then have to search through the history to try and recall what exactly I had open and, with the number of pages I open in a session, it is extensive and tabs are missed.

All I want to do is open the Mozilla browser and have my session repopulate just like it was when I left it. I don't want to have to guess what was opened or go through tons of history.

browser.sessionstore.enabled is no longer being used, so do not worry if you can't find it.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

do not clear the Browsing History as that will prevent session restore from working.
Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
   https://support.mozilla.org/kb/remove-recent-browsing-search-and-download-history

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.

You can check browser.sessionstore.* prefs including browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash on the about:config page and reset browser.sessionstore prefs that are user set (bold) via the right-click context menu to the default value to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.
