how to check your current Archive settings and set up your Archive Options:

'Tools' > 'Account settings' >'Copies & folders' for the mail account or right click on mail account in Folder Pane and select : Settings' then select Copies & folders' for the mail account.

Message Archives select 'Keep messages archives in' select 'Archives folder on' and the mail account name

click on 'Archive Options' button

If you have alot of emails per month, then select 'Monthly archived folders'. select : 'Keep existing folder structure of archived messages' click on OK click on OK

Select emails Note: hold Ctrl key and click to select various or Ctrl +A will select all or click on first email, hold Shift key and click on last email to highlight a group. click on 'Archive' button

an Archive folder will appear. Emails are stored by year, then month, then folder structure.

All archived emails will still be accesible via Thunderbird. they will also still be in the profile folder and so still need to be backed up. A backup of the entire profile will include them. It will make your regular folders smaller insize and less cluttered.

Have you set up the Archive Options as advised.? 'Tools' > 'Account settings' >'Copies & folders' for the mail account or right click on mail account in Folder Pane and select : Settings' then select Copies & folders' for the mail account.

Message Archives

  • select 'Keep messages archives in'
  • select 'Archives folder on' and the mail account name
  • click on 'Archive Options' button
  • select 'Monthly archived folders'.
  • select : 'Keep existing folder structure of archived messages'
  • click on OK
  • click on OK

If you have done the above: To archive one email: select an inbox subfolder to see emails. click on first email in list, it will display in Message Pane. click on 'Archive' button.

If you want to archive all the emails in that subfolder. click on first email in list, it will display in Message Pane. Press 'Ctrl' key and 'A' key - this highlights all emails clickon 'Archive' button.
