All messages in inbox are deleted on Tbird & server. I had to use my alternate email, as my main email wouldn't receive emails for a couple hours, in order to confirm my email address to mozilla in order to ask a question here. UUUgh, this is a freakin mess. There were over 800 Emails in the inbox. After the emptying the trash the trash folder still had >200 Emails in it, same as before. Terrible way to start the day. Losing trust in this client.

You should not be using the Inbox as a storage facility. It was not meant for that. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_working_-_Thunderbird

Doesn't explain why the inbox on client and server were deleted completely when 'Empty trash' was selected on the right hand menu. The trash folder was still full after this error occurred. My settings for the Inbox folder are for nothing to be deleted automatically and for all starred messages to be saved from any action, including deletion of messages, taken by Tbird or syncing.

I will adjust my usage of Tbird but an idea of what happened would be very helpful.

The folder might have gotten corrupted. Did you look in the profile to see if there is anything left of it? This page might help: http://www.ehow.com/how_7165104_restore-email-folders-mozilla-thunderbird.html
