Since the last update (now 45.0) I have trouble closing tabs, except in Safe Mode? CAUSE: unknown, went away on its own (no likely addons)

While I haven't tried to disable Lightning (not even sure right now if it is enabled?) I can report that the problem has disappeared as mystically as it appeared. Everything now seems to be normal and I have no reason to know why? Thanks to all respondents and I will call the problem solved.
Cheers Argusstuft.

I have trouble closing tabs
Please explain in more detail
- what you're doing
- what happens
- what you expect to happen
What I was doing was clicking on the close button in the top right hand corner of the tab What happened was nothing What I expected to happen was the tab closing. When I tried Thunderbird in Safe Mode everything worked as it should.
If you disable Lightning does functionality return to normal?
