my square credit card payment will not process using firefox, but will with any other browser

Hello, I am personally having the same issues that other have reported concerning the inability to process payments while in the Firefox browser. In fact, we have had to put a Notice of issues on our website to forewarn our clients of potential problems trying to make payments in Firefox. We use two basic payment gateways, PayPal and Square. The PayPal gateway offers no issues. However, no one trying to make a payment using our Square payment gateway (including ourselves) are able to complete the transaction.

This is NOT an issue when one (again, us included) uses any other browser, i. e. Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Opera. The error we receive is the same as the error other receive. You can see screen shot of error by following this link:

It is impossible to complete any kind of payment in any kind of site using Firefox James

Aug 17, 2016, 6:58:12 AM

James, I have no way of answering this question. We only use two payment gateways at the moment as I said in the beginning. I have made successful payments on a personal level using PayPall but rarely use a credit care myself. When we started getting complaints from people trying to make payments our first thought was that a problem existed with the payment gateway module. However, our research has proven that not to be the case. One can make a successful transaction in virtually any other browser. We have tested the following browsers: Internet Explorer: Success; Netsacape: Success; Chrome: Success; Opera: Success; Firefox: Failed. We are continuing our research which includes this communication.

Your screenshot sounds like this issue:

Resource Not Found while trying to process a simple payment using Square Connect API - Square Communities

Curiously, I don't see a thread about this specific to Firefox: https://www.sellercommunity.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=firefox

If you can confirm that this is not a Tracking Protection issue -- see What happened to Tracking Protection? -- then I suggest posting on that forum for troubleshooting guidance; it sounds as though they have access to debugging information that is only available on the server side.

Regarding the other thread you had posted in, to diagnose a possible invalid certificate issue is difficult if all the (failing) communication is in the background. We can come back to that if you think your issue lies there.

Or if you use Avast, AVG, BitDefender, Bullguard, ESET / nod32, Kaspersky, or Microsoft Family Safety, check out this article on how to temporarily disable those filters from intercepting your HTTPS connections: How to troubleshoot security error codes on secure websites.

First of all, it is not a security issue. You are correct in that FireFox is not mentioned in the thread on the Square forum. However, they don't mention or may not have thought of it being a browser issue. In fact, we discovered it by mere chance. Originally we were thinking that was and issue with the payment gateway module. By change, while having another browser open, we tried it and it was successful. (we use Firefox as our default browser on our PCs) Then we proceeded to try a transaction with other browsers and all were successful except for Firefox.

We are investigating the "tracking protection" subject you raised. Nevertheless, outside of the internal mechanics of how browsers work (I personally am not familiar with). we have no idea why this is occuring

Update: Tracking Protection" has nothing to do with this issue. We have retested payment processing and all was

Microsoft Edge Internet Explorer Google Chrome Netscape Ooera

To date, the only browser used that payments processing are failing is Firefox. I am wondering if, Firefox is still a Gecko Based Browser and if that has anything to do with this issue.

We are hoping that your support team can help us figure this issue out. Otherwise, we will have no choice but to add a statement of browser preference on our website.

Firefox is a Gecko-based browser -- Gecko is the rendering engine -- but I have no idea whether that has anything to do with the issue.

Do you have a demo page where "purchases" can be attempted with play money for testing? (i.e., not my real credit card number)

We are just puzzled as to why payment processing is successful when using any browser except Friefox.

We do not have a "play money scheme" in place but we do have a testing product that cost $1.00 (USD). If you try that (and successful) we will gladly refund your money. We do not store credit card information.

Testing product can be found here:
