Since the update to Firefox 49.0.2 the other day, there is a very partcular and peculiar problem with Gawker media websites like https://deadspin.com/

There is a (blue) notification circle icon embedded in the black banner at the top of each of these sites which shows you how many people have replied and/or starred your post on each navigation between pages. Well, since the update, this notification circle is no longer visible replaced by the black that it's the banner/top bar. I've been informed by other members that this doesn't happen in Chrome, so it appears this is a Firefox issue. Perhaps it's something to do with how Firefox renders these websites?

Can someone find out what the problem is? Otherwise, you have to manually navigate to your profile page dashboard to find your notifications, which can be cumbersome especially when you've gotten use to the numbers being in the icon at the top of the page.

Only someone else that uses the site can confirm the problem.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

For the first time since I've been having problems, this does, indeed, appear to be something to do with the add-ons and their compatibility with this version of Firefox. The icon appears, again, when in Safe Mode.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.
