Instant crash after installing 8.0 and running firefox sync

more options

Last night i updated Firefox to 8.0 on my Gen3 iPAd running IOS 10.3.2.

I ran firefox synch (bookmarks only) and after that it would immediately crash. Reinstalling doesn't seem to help. It'll be stable until i run the sync again, then it's back to the instant crashing. I've hard reset the iPad as well.

I can get through the firefox sign in, acknowledge the sign in via the email link. IT's still stable after sign - in.

When I actually sync it....it starts syncing and after a minute it'll crash without me touching anything else. Now upon launch it'll pop up the embarassing crash message for about 5 seconds and crash again, without me touching.

I hope there's some help out there. I really like this browser on my win7 laptop and the way it works with the version on my iPad.

Update: It looks like we don't need the crash report now as the devs have already fixed this crash! They are going to release it in a Firefox for iOS 8.1 update. I'm trying to find out the release date for this. Thanks for your patience.

The app updated again this morning to 8.0.1. I was hoping this would address the crashing so I went ahead and synced. Right back to crashville.

Thank you for your thorough testing and very detailed steps! I've filed a bug on this so you can track this issue with me & with any luck the developers will be able to reproduce this bug & come up with a fix soon!

Bug 1385195 - Fx iOS 8.0.1 permanent startup crash

You may also be able to retrieve the crash reports generated on your iPhone and attach it to this bug:

  • Start by opening up the Settings app.
  • Navigate to General -> Privacy -> Diagnostics & Usage -> Diagnostic & Usage Data.
  • Select a Firefox crash from the list. This will start with "Firefox" and contain the timestamp of the crash.
  • Tap on the crash and you will see a text field with a crash log. Long press to Select All and then Copy the crash text.
  • Paste it in this thread. If it's too long, try using Pastebin or pasting it directly in the bug I linked above after you create a account there.

Great news. I was just about to turn on the crash dump, too.

I'll await the update then give it another shot. I'm glad they were able to repro and fix.

I got my 8.0.1 about an hour ago. I WAS able to sync without crashing. The problem was my bookmarks from the dtop didn't show up. Relaunching the app on my iPAD did the trick. I'm synced and not crashing. Seems that null return fix did it.

Thanks for the quick action.

Awesome! Glad to hear the 8.1 update solved your crashes! And thank you for explaining how you got your bookmarks to finally sync. Should help others stuck in this situation too.
