Problems with 57 not working

more options

New v 57.0 really doesn't work well. It's just "there" -- can't do anything, even close it. Opening new tabs takes a Looooong time. No error messages, just doesn't work. (Not even hanging) Reverting to 56.0.2 if I can, even though I can't use webmail with my ISP (blank message text on sending-- will be interested to see if 57 fixes that!)

Try a refresh!

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did that. No, didn't solve the problem. The initial load is very good, but after that blecch. I wanted to test whether I continued to get blank messages in webmail (I did after the upgrade but before the refresh) Can't even type in the "to" box. So I'm going to revert to 56, even though I've lost all my add-ins. The inability to send webmail forced me to Chrome. I still use Firefox for certain websites and applications. (and rarely used sites with passwords)

so, I reverted to 56, works fine (and faster without the add-ins), except the webmail problem. HOWEVER, even though I changed the default not to upgrade automatically. It did. And 57 still doesn't work. Awful and frustrating. Edge insists on logging me in to a default Hotmail account. At least there are four or five other browsers I can use.Hate to give you up but you're forcing me to
