My account was locked because of an invalid email.

I recently reinstalled my OS and when I tried to log in to my Firefox account for Sync, it wouldn't let me because the email is no longer valid. I even tried to add a secondary email before just in case something like this would happen, but it wouldn't let me. How can I get my account unlocked and email changed? I still have all the profile data from my profile and the login token from my sync account.

This is all I have on Sync : There is contact info in this and yes do have to create a account and wait : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-firefox-sync-verification-email-faq Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

The email doesn't exist anymore. It's not something I thought could happen. I'd really rather not create a new account because if I can recover my old one somehow.'

Is there something in the sync you are trying to recover?

Resetting the sync password, or changing its e-mail, will remove all data from the servers.

This is a security feature. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ive-lost-my-firefox-sync-account-information

Sorry, without having access to the original email account with which you setup Sync there is no way to log in to your Firefox Account. A 2nd email address needs to be added before access to the original email address is cut off.

That said, what about other devices connected on that Sync account? Sync wasn't intended to be used as a backup medium for one solitary device. With a 2nd device your data would be on the other device, and your oversight with maintaining your Sync registration wouldn't be affected. Creating a new Sync account / Firefox Account wouldn't be an issue.

Bottom line, if you still have your old Firefox Profile data just copy it over to the new Firefox installation. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile

I did not know my account was basically doomed after the old email account was deleted. Not being allowed to add a second email address was also unexpected. I was not using Sync on another device. I was hoping it would help me precisely during this transition. I do have the old profile data though, but I am still holding out that support may be able to help me. If there really is no way to gain access to my account again, then that would be the last resort, as much as I'd hate to do so.

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer

So the answer is no....
