I used Mozilla without trouble with my cox.net emails. When I changed those to gmail just last week, I added my 3 new gmail accounts to Mozilla using the instructions in Support. Now all my gmail for all 3 accounts arrive into the Inbox in duplicate plus 1 of each also goes into the Archives folder - I have NEVER had any emails appear on their own in Archive folder before. Plus now if I remove any email from Archives I lose it as well as any replies or forwards, etc. - they just disappear from the Sent folder, not into Trash but nowhere to be found.

Welcome to Gmail.

The archive folder, or "all Mail" folder is where Gmail stores all you mail. Their "folders" on the gmail server are nothing but labels attached to the email. The contents of a folder is created dynamically when you click on it.

IMAP as implemented in Thunderbird uses folders, so there some things that Thunderbird has to do to deal with the "quirks", but the gmail experience is not a true IMAP experience and you have to get use to the "google way of doing things" in some respects.

Now I really do not understand this duplicate mail in the inbox, unless you are talking about the unified folder view where an inbox folder is shown for all accounts and sub folders for the individual account shown in the "unified" inbox. If that is the case you might be looking for the all folders view.
