Two-step authentication in Firefox Account Problem

more options

When try to log in my Firefox account , with the correct password which I still recall just fine, I'm asked to use two-step authentication.

And there lies the problem. Since I've reset my phone I don't have access to the authentication app anymore, and unfortunately I had forgotten to copy the recovery code for this particular account.

So now what? I do I access this account? I've got the correct email address and the matching password but not the authentication app configured.

Kind regards,

Raf

What you could do is : try to reset the password of the Sync account - maybe that will give you access to your account settings. (If you don't succeed the first time - try again) However : you will lose all data stored on the Sync server when you reset the password of the Sync account.

I have this issue as well.

I successfully reset the password, however FF accepts my new password, but still asks for the 2-step authentication that no longer exists. FF provides no other alternative options (most other accounts offer an email or text alternative).

Hello LI_NY_1,

Would you try to log in to the account using these :

https://accounts.firefox.com/signin

https://accounts.firefox.com/settings

Thank you.

When trying to login here: https://accounts.firefox.com/signin - it prompts me to use the old Authenticator, with no other options.

When trying to login here: https://accounts.firefox.com/settings - it offers to send an email that I never receive (checked spam and resent email, but I never receive it to my gmail account)

Any ideas?

If you do not have recovery codes or otherwise aren't able to connect to the Firefox account then reset the Firefox Sync password to see if that gives access to the account and disable two factor authentication. You may have to try this more than once to be able to disable 2FA. Previous Firefox Account Recovery Codes expire when new ones are created.

Thanks.

I click Forgot Password and receive the email to change password.

I successfully change password, receive email confirmation that it was changed.

Then get this screen, but no email (checked in spam as well.).

If I try to login using new password, it goes back to trying to authenticate with old authenticator that I no longer have...

Firefox Sync should work with Gmail without a problem.

Did you get an email when you reset the password of the Sync account via the above listed Firefox account website (i.e. not via the Options -> Firefox Account page)?

I reset the password and receive email.

I successfully set new password and I receive email confirming.

I try to log in with new password, but it still is asking for the old Authenticator.

I try to use this URL, as suggested: https://accounts.firefox.com/settings and it says email was sent and I need to confirm.

However I do not receive any email, even after clicking resend confirmation email.
