While trying to resolve a different problem, I removed the accounts setting in "options" tab and created a "NEW" account. The problem I have is that now I have 2 inbox folders and 2 trash folders. The first inbox, just under email account, is where the new messages go and the first trash fold is where the deleted messages go. The problem is that under the first trash folded is the header for "local folders" and under that is the old inbox and trash folders that are not used or needed. Also under "local folders" are the drafts, sent, Archives, and Junk folders from the old Accounts settings and they seem to work. Bottom line, how can I fix the mess I created?

Trash and Outbox under Local Folders is standard for all accounts; Trash for when you delete something from LF, and Outbox for storing messages after applying Send Later to sent mail. So, it's correct that you can't remove them, although you should be able to remove the unneeded Inbox.

Try this: right-click the first Trash folder, the one that is in current use, Empty Trash.

I tried that, but it only empties the trash folder. I did try going into the Profile and was able to delete all but the "Trash" folder that was/is under the Local Folders heading. For whatever reason, even if I rename the file or the MSI file, they always come back. At least, so far, I only have an "Outbox and Trash" folders under the Local Folders header

If you can't remove them that way, can you unsubscribe from the unwanted folders? Right-click the (IMAP) account in the folder pane, Subscribe, uncheck the folders.

Hmm, I looked but there is no unsubscribe. Probably because this is a POP account?

Yes, POP accounts don't have subscribe options; only the Inbox is downloaded.

I guess we will just have to live with a trash and outbox folder under the local folders header as I can not figure out how to get rid of them. Thanks for your suggestions

Thank you again! I did get rid of the unneeded inbox, so everything is as it should be.

Folks - I have a similar problem, but odd. and I don't know how it got this way. If you see attached image, I have got an extra Trash and Outbox under a custom folder I made (red box), and they will not remove, with mouse-dragging or anything else. I know the green-box Trash/Outbox under Local Folders belongs there. The red-box Trash is an archive (has a lot of old trash) while the Local Folders\Trash is collecting newer stuff. How to do move/remove the red-box folders? Click-drag on these only gives me the circle-bar "not allowed" symbol and they won't move or delete. thanks much!
