Some of my contacts are not listed by the Ctrl+K search. For privacy concerns I will not use the right name here, but lets say I know a person called Johnny Smith. When I type 'John' in the Ctrl+K search field there is a long list of people, but the moment I get to 'Johnn' the list it empty. What is the problem? Why is he not found? I know for sure that he is one of my TB contacts. When I open the Address Book, type Ctrl+K and 'Johnny', he is displayed on the list. Does 'johnny' have to be part of the email address itself?

Try rebuilding the global database and see if that changes the search results.

Global Search, Ctrl+K, searches for messages 'mentioning' contact@domain.com, so the contact has to be in a sent or received message header. It does not search Address Book for the contact - that is done by Edit/Find/Search Addresses... or directly in Address Book.

I do have mails to and from the mentioned person. So that doesn't really explain it.

Yes - that worked! Thank you! And it kind of makes sense considering my other question/problem: "All tabs disappeared when TB restarted" - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1358515 Unfortunately I have not received any answer to that question yet.
