So I hope someone can help me as I am beyond frustrated with this:

I have firefox mobile 1.1 installed on my Nokia N900 running the latest release of Maemo 5 but want to upgrade to the beta release of Firefox.

I go to the mozilla.org/m/beta page on my device, download the file, close Firefox and install it. Unfortunately it states that 'fennec' is already installed. So I uninstall firefox, install form the .install for firefox 4 beta 2, however it is Firefox 1.1 that is installed!

I have no idea what is going on here. If anyone could provide hints/tips/tricks/steps as to how they installed it i will be very grateful.

There's an issue in Maemo's application manager where it will only allow the Ovi Store versions of some programs to be installed.

To work around this problem, you can try downloading the .deb file directly and installing it with the "dpkg" command. The .deb file is here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/latest-beta/maemo5-gtk/multi/

and some instructions for installing it are here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=63508

Ok I will take a look at this and get back to you, but certainly looks promising.

Sorry for the late response: yes this worked perfectly thanks very much. Now if only Mozilla could iron out those performance issues it'd be the #1 browser on my phone!
